Got hitched

December 6, 2009 marked the second anniversary of my first date with David, and was also the day he asked me to marry him. On December 4, 2010 (the nearest Saturday to the third anniversary of our first date), we exchanged our vows in front of family and friends.

It was a lovely and perfect day, even though the groom was hungover and I had a persistent cough and was coming down with a bad upper respiratory infection. We'd done a group bachelor(ette) night the night before with dinner and bowling and then the boys went out to the casino. I was lucky enough to spend the night before the wedding with my girls, Sarah and Shawna, the two best honourary sisters a gal could have.

On the morning of the wedding, I woke up at 5:00 and began to panic. I eventually got dressed and sneaked out of the hotel room without waking Sarah and Shawna. There is very little to do at West Edmonton Mall before 9:00am, but Starbucks was open around 5:30 and I went in and stared stupidly at the menu as if I'd forgotten how to read. When asked what I wanted, I responded "I don't know...I'm getting married in eight hours and I'm freaking out. Everyone will be looking at me! I have stage fright!" She came over and gave me a hug, and then comped my breakfast once I finally ordered. I ended up mall walking for a while after that and eventually went to Zellers for pantyhose and tylenol.

We had a ceremony in the Beaujolais Room at the Fantasyland Hotel in West Edmonton Mall, conducted by our good friend Jo. One of David's aunties performed a Cree smudging to bless the union. We had the reception down the hall in the Piesporter Room, with beautiful tables, great food. Between the cold medication, being overly tired, and the emotional impact of the day, I remember very little. I do remember the beauty and happiness of marrying David while our nearest and dearest shared the day with us <3
